Legal Counsel (m/f/x)
CEN and CENELEC are two of the three European organizations responsible for developing European technical standards. CEN is the European Committee for Standardization, while CENELEC is responsible for European electrotechnical standards.
For the CEN-CENELEC Management Centre (CCMC), we are currently looking for a Legal Counsel, who will be in charge of the day-to-day legal operations.
The headquarters of CEN-CENELEC are located in Brussels, from where partnerships are established with consortia, regulatory bodies, governments, and both European and international project teams.
The Legal Counsel is responsible for the daily legal activities of CCMC and works in close collaboration with other departments, project teams, management, and the members affiliated with CEN and CENELEC.
Key responsibilities include contract management, compliance, corporate governance, GDPR an competition law aspects.
Job description
The main responsibilities of the Legal Counsel include:
- Corporate: You ensure that CEN-CENELEC’s operations remain compliant with relevant Belgian and European legislation, as well as corporate governance requirements. You also supervise and support corporate housekeeping procedures and reporting obligations.
- Contracts: This involves managing, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements with international partners, regulatory bodies, public authorities, and the European Commission.
- Intellectual Property: You coordinate and oversee matters related to trademarks, patents, and copyrights, working closely with external parties specialized in these areas.
- Data Protection, GDPR. Advising on and monitoring of data protection and privacy requirements. You assist in implementing and maintaining policies, records and processes for GDPR compliance.
- Litigation. Supporting work on legal disputes and assisting the Director General and Head of Governance & Membership with case management and preparation.
Profile
- You hold a Master’s degree in Law and have 5 to 10 years of relevant experience, ideally in an international context.
- The main working language is English. Knowledge of Dutch or French is an asset.
- You are able to work independently, set clear priorities, and act in a proactive, pragmatic, and solution-oriented manner.
- Within your areas of responsibility, you take a critical approach, verify compliance requirements, and propose improvements to management.
- Given the frequent interaction with both internal and external stakeholders, you communicate in a clear, fluent, and constructive way.
